I love the part with the chair!
An episode of the program Samurai Spirit where Kyokushin Karate practitioner and professional fighter Nicholas Pettas is exploring traditional Japanese budo. This one is about Aikido and takes the usual scepticism from people who see it for the first time and say its fake, and give a bit of a scientific explanation to it.

Two must-see photography projects :
http://www.claxtonprojects.com/ A growing collection of “Photography books we’ve found, rediscovered & love”
http://500photographers.blogspot.com/ A display of the work of currently 417 photographers, slowly growing towards the 500 !
It has been a while .. since I posted. True, but ive been a bit busy ![]()
Besides all the usual stuff (family/work/aikido/etc) ive been busy with a separate photography website: recapture.nl , go check it out !!
So time to put some stuff I found on the blog!
A quick thing worth reading: Mannenkracht (Dutch) from Nicolette de Wijn
Just HAD to share this one, amazingly funny !
This afternoon, while making dinner, I all of a sudden had a very strange feeling in my neck. I reached out and felt something hairy. Lucky I didnt squash it but gentle picked it off my neck with some effort .. this little one was hanging on to my skin really tight.
We went out for a walk with the kids in the park nearby, so it must have hitchhiked its way in on my clothes
I put it in a pot during dinner, and when kids were asleep I put it on the table for some nice closeup photos.
Its quite a figure, I love caterpilar up close .. they look so alien .. specially this one is cute, with the long hairs and even an antenna to ‘phone home’ on its back LOL.
Well, here he (of she) is ! I dont know what kind it is yet. Will try to look it up or ask the local experts on twitter later.
I found this very weird looking alien spider in my garden tonight. Its legs are stretched parallel to the branch it is sitting on, and its claws (?) hooked around the branch …. never seen this one before!
Anyone know what spider this is ? (full-res hint: after clicking the tumbnail, click the green arrow at the bottom to see the full res!)
Tonight I went for a photohike at a nature development area of staatsbosbeheer “Willeskop”
I drove past it a LOT of times in my life, but never knew how nice this area is
Best thing of tonight were two hunting Western Marsh-harrier (Bruine kiekendief – Circus aeruginosus), it was quite far away but I managed to get them recognisable on a photo with the 400mm lens.
Very majestic birds of prey so see, even from a distance.
After that a nice sunset followed and time to go home and perpare for the week.
Tonight I went for another photohike at the “Groene Jonker” .. I just love this area !
Its was not very spectacular for birding, except for the Putter (goldfinch or Carduelis carduelis) on the photo below.
But the sunset was MAGICAL with all the birds making their last song of the day count and flying low over the water.
A quick selection of photos below.
Today I wandered trough the “Groene Jonker” at Zevenhoven/Nieuwkoop. Its a small area from Natuurmonumenten (Dutch nature preservation org.) that used to be plain farmlands but is converted to a wetlands (swamp) area.
The number of birds there is amazing, many rare species can be found there.
I got very lucky, I saw Lepelaars (Spoonbills), Steltkluten (Stilts), Rietgors (Reed Bunting), a baby Waterral (Water Rail) and many more common birds.
One very amazing nice area if you like birds, very nice to find a swamp like that in the middle of the over-cultivated grasslands !
One funny thing, google maps still shows the area as farmland as it was before 2007/2008
Just a funny vid of Rowin telling stories
Previous weekend was spend in the forest near Eerbeek (NL). Ofcourse I managed to go out for some nice photoshooting ![]()
Below some nice close-ups of two caterpillars I found crawling around.
If anyone can see what catarpillars these are please comment!

I bought an old lens on markplaats (dutch ebay) today, a Soligor 85-205mm F3.8 Macro Zoom with a nikon mount.
The fun part is that this lens is from begin of the 70′s ! and it works on my D90 dSLR
YEEY FOR NIKON !
Ofcourse its a manual focus lens, and the body has to be put in manual everything .. but its nice to play with.
Didnt really try a macro yet, but photos of the lens and two quick test shots below.
Definately not bad for € 35 !
Just a quick video of the kids playing together in the box, singing and enjoying theirselves
